by Daniel Tidwell Sometimes you get told something so often you believe that it’s true. There are stories so ubiquitous that we take them as inerrant fact and as truth (see what I did there?).

On February 7th I had the pleasure of meeting Julie Johnson. I had been reading her blog for several months and was familiar with her remarkable story as a transgender Christian woman and mother of three. What Julie and her partner have experienced in the journey to be honest about who they are in their community, their marriage, their family, their church has so much to teach us about the effect of Christians who respond in loving affirming ways or in hurtful, condemning and judgmental ways. In this blog post we bring you An Amazing Essay By Janel written by Julie’s wife giving you insight into Julie’s story of transition from outward male to outward female. Enjoy. Dr. Tina by Daniel Tidwell I have realized that I am surrounded by incredible people. There are so many people in my life who are deeply thoughtful, compassionate, imaginative, soulful people. I’m not idealizing. Some of these people I can’t stand to be around. Others I can’t stand when I am away from them. Either way, it seems that I do a lot of falling over and these are people who meet me on those grounds. by Daniel Tidwell What I think should be quite clear is this: I see the Bible as very important for the church. I also see the church as far more important than the Bible. It is a document of and for the church. If you are not a part of the Christian faith and/or you do not hold the Bible as important, then this discussion may not be for you. by Natalie Patterson In honor of the inspiring questions received at our January event on body image and gender issues we present this poem by Natalie Patterson. I came across Natalie in this video by Soul Pancake where she reads a version at the end of the video. IT ROCKED MY WORLD. If celebrating the beauty and gift of your body is an aspiration of yours, I recommend following Natalie’s daily ritual … I HAVE A BEAUTIFUL BODY! Dr. Tina by Daniel Tidwell We are excited to share this series with you. Daniel was a guest panelist at our event this January. This series was originally posted on his blog. For more information on this series, read the about page or Daniel's introduction. By Jonalyn Fincher A man walks past your office, he’s eating a sandwich that smells like heaven. You notice it’s past lunch. You want your own. You don’t steal this man’s sandwich, instead you go out looking for your own. You eat. You are satisfied. By Jonalyn Fincher Why is it so hard to be celibate or a virgin today? Why does virginal or “born-again virgin” status (as commentor, Meghan, pointed out, not all celibate people are virgins) make headlines (Lolo Jones or Sean Lowe). Why is virginity something some stations hide (ABC)? By Dr. Tina Schermer Sellers Have you ever found yourself absolutely confused or angry about the messages sent to women about their bodies, sexuality, their value? Even the messages we send to men seem confusing, limiting and degrading. Life lately has invited me again into these conversations of confusion and frustration. |
